Dr. Homer Stryker was an orthopedic surgeon, inventor, and entrepreneur who, when frustrated with the tools he had to work with, invented new ones. His inventions revolutionized orthopedic surgery and the care of patients beginning in the 1930s and continuing to the present day. He was the first orthopedic surgeon in southwest Michigan, and it was here that he developed many of his devices and where the Stryker Corporation, a global company in medical equipment, remains today.
