How Strategic is HR in My Organization? Assessment and Action Planning
Abstract
Individual courses and programs of study have espoused the value of approaching HR from a strategic, rather than traditional, approach. However, there is still a shortage of classroom materials that allow students to see first-hand the differential outcomes of strategic HR over traditional HR. This paper presents an experiential-based learning project that allows students to diagnose HR practices and policies as traditional versus strategic, assess their impact on both individual and organizational outcomes, and develop recommendations for enhancing HR practices and policies to better align with organizational strategy and facilitate enhanced performance.
