Abstract

The literature on second careers is heavy on description and attitudinal antecedents but light on theory that integrates the broader elements of motivation to explain the personal career transition from industry to academia. This paper reviews the literature on career transitions and proposes a coherent framework to study this form of career transition. A series of propositions are also advanced for pursuing future empirical research.
